Food - An Alternative to Emotions

By Michael Hadfield Emotion: a moving of the feelings: agitation of the mind: one of the three groups of the phenomena of the mind feeling, distinguished from cognition and will. Food: what one feeds on: that which, being digested, nourishes the body: whatever sustains or promotes growth. No obvious connection there, is there? My dictionary doesn’t make a distinction between emotions and feelings, but some psychologists do, so I’ll be more clear about the sort of thing I’m writing about here: hurt, upset, sadness, anger, grief, and maybe even boredom if it is accompanied by an irritation about the boredom. There are positive emotions, but they generally don’t cause problems unless maybe you’re on a permanent high and can’t get down. Let’s think about lions for a moment. They lounge around in the sun most of the time. When they get hungry, they go and kill something and eat it until they are full. Then they lounge around until they are hungry again and amuse themselves by fighting among themselves or driving off other lions. They don’t go out and kill something for something to do because they are bored. They don’t go out and kill something because they are angry, or sad. They eat when they need to eat, and they don’t even need to eat every day. Can you imagine a lioness going out and killing and eating every time her partner growled at her? Can you imagine a lioness going out and killing and eating every time her cubs became a little boisterous? Ok. Lions probably don’t experience emotions and they are much more focused in the now, but they probably don’t get overweight and suffer heart and circulation problems either. So why do people do those things? Why do people head for the fridge when someone has done something they didn’t like? Why do people head for the fridge when they feel lonely? Why do people head for the fridge when the commercial break starts or the clock says ’supper time’? Why do they do those things regardless of whether or not they feel hungry. And it’s difficult to imagine how someone could feel hungry after eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner isn’t it? They do it because they don’t want to feel. They do it because they are afraid of what will happen if they don’t. They do it because it distracts them from being fully present with themselves. And they do that because they don’t really like themselves, and they certainly don’t love themselves. No one who loves themselves would mistreat their body in any way, because love doesn’t mistreat. Love and health are synonymous. As children we naturally express how we feel from moment to moment. I feel sick, I don’t like that, I’ve got a headache, my tummy hurts, I’m bored and when we feel angry we shout and stamp our feet and walk away. But as we grow we are taught that good children don’t do those things. It’s not polite to tell aunty you don’t like her cakes when she’s spent all afternoon making them ’specially for you. If you shout at me I’ll give you a smack. Idle hands are the devil’s playthings. So we are taught to lie about how we feel, to not express when we are deeply unhappy, that anger is unacceptable, and that sitting contentedly, happy in our own mental world of fascination and creativity, is unacceptable. And then after getting screwed up like that (because our parents feel pressure to socialise us and make us acceptable to others - because they understand loneliness and don’t want you to develop any traits that would cause you to be rejected by others) they feed you when you are no longer obviously expressing your unhappiness. They know something is wrong by your change of mood, and they don’t like seeing you unhappy so they feed you. Chocolate, sweets, ice cream, cream cakes are all foods that are used to entice you into a better mood state. Notice that apples, pears, oranges, nuts, tomatoes and such are never used to entice you to change your mood state. When you are ill, you get treats, all the same foods filled with fat and sugar. Now when we are little our parents and close relatives are Gods. They are all-wise. They can read our minds. They can work magic. And so what they teach us is stored deep within our minds and we call on it in times of trouble. Times of trouble are usually when we feel low, or bored. We have been taught that eating fat and sweet takes the pain away. At least that’s what we act as if we’ve been taught. But there was a processing error in our young minds. What we really got, and really wanted was love and attention and appreciation. The treat was just the medium that transported and expressed that feeling of being loved and cared for. But we mistook it. The reason we go to the fridge is because it reminds us of being loved and cared for. It reminds us of loving arms around us; being tucked up in bed; having someone come up with ideas of how to have some fun together with them; having someone stroke your hair; and those are wonderful things to have experienced as a child. To know and to feel loved at any time during life is a wonderful experience. You can change the pattern if you want to. You just need to experience the emotion that has been buried. You need to let it out and let it go. Writing is a wonderful medium for releasing emotion. Make a pact with yourself that every time you head for the fridge and you have no feelings of hunger that you will sit down for just five minutes and write. What you write is what you feel. Start off with ‘I feel right now’ and insert whatever you are feeling bored, lonely, unloved, fed-up and so on. And then write ‘this feels like the time when’ and allow your mind to drift back into the past and write out whatever comes up. Write down who did what when and why. Write down who you’re angry at. Write down what you’d like to say now or what you should have said then and keep going until you get tears. Until you touch the emotional hot spot that causes tears to flow you will not bring about any significant change. Once the tears flow you can stop writing and rip up the paper. Language and grammar are unimportant; no one will read your words. Make eating a conscious activity. It’s ok to feel however you feel. No one has the right to deny you the full and natural expression of your emotions. But you do need to take responsibility for you. Expressing your emotions isn’t hitting, hurting, or seeking revenge on another. It is giving yourself permission to feel however you are feeling and giving yourself permission to express how you are feeling to anyone that you feel it’s important to express those feelings to. It is not an excuse to blame someone else for how you feel. Your feelings are yours, and why you are feeling them is your stuff. Others only fire off emotions so that you can identify a problem and heal it. They are not to blame for how you feel and neither are you. Michael J. Top Five Reasons and Ways to Take Care of Your Elders (Parents, Grandparents…)

By Danielle Hollister There will almost absolutely come a day when your parents and/grandparents will need YOU. When this time comes, they will probably not admit that they need YOU or ANYONE, but in reality, they will definitely need SOMEONE. It’s actually quite similar to the days when you were a tiny baby and you needed them to: survive every day; have help going to the bathroom; be fed a good meal; take a real bath; get dressed appropriately; etc… You may not remember those days with convincing clarity, but you do know that they existed regardless of what you actually recall. Your parents/grandparents, (the people who raised you, fed you, took care of you, gave you shelter, gave you love and support…), will someday grow older and NEED you. Are you ready? Do you have a clue what this involves? Bottom line (if you choose to distance yourself from this natural occurence) is that you have to find the best nursing home/assisted living facility in your area that is suitable for your parent(s)/grandparent(s)… I have more advice on how to choose the BEST home outside of your home for your parents/grandparents later… However, if you are at all like me, and you choose to become your parents/grandparents’ caretaker, the story is entirely different… You will need a number of material things, as well as a diverse range of emotions, an undisputed grasp on reality (if that’s possible), the ability to put someone (other than your child/children) totally before yourself… 1) Remember that THEY MADE YOU who you are today… They took care of your every basic need for at least five to ten years… They changed your diaper, gave you a bath, rocked you to sleep at night, ran to your crib in the middle of the night if you were crying… and MUCH MORE - Think about it… 2) Consider the fact that they probably did WITHOUT luxuries like vacations, new furniture, the latest clothing styles, the best vehicles, etc… so that they COULD GIVE YOU THE BEST there was to give… 3) Do not forget that without them, you would not be here. They CHOSE to have you, to BRING YOU into this world… What can be a more significant sign of love than that? 4) Think about how different and probably HARD life was for them compared to how they made life for you… It’s natural for a parent to want and/or try to give their child/children more or better than what they had growing up… but DO you REALLY appreciate and/or acknowledge this? 5) Your parents/grandparents unarguably made sacrifices in their lives, so that you could have a better life… Don’t you think you should do the same? How can you give them back what they gave to you? If you choose to put them in a nursing home/assisted living facility, make it your business to FIND the BEST one there is in your area. Make sure you VISIT your parents/grandparents REGULARLY (atleast once or twice a week…) Get involved at the facility that you chose for them, VOLUNTEER your time and/or donate extra supplies etc… If you decide to keep your parents/grandparents at home with you, make sure you accommodate their basic needs (ie. wheelchair ramp, hospital bed, assisted in-home nursing care, proper diet, adequate exercise, etc…) Remember that they’re hurting a lot more than you are and a lot more than they’ll probably ever tell you. They made a tremendous effort to make your life relatively easy when you were growing up, the least they deserve is to have a life that is comparably comfortable as they live out their golden years. And for the small percentage of people who read this article and think “My parents/grandparents did not do anything for me growing up…” or “They made my life miserable…” or “They could have done a lot more for me when I was a kid…” etc… Consider this, you made it to where you are today without their “unconditional love and support” that I described, so although you may not feel that you “owe” them anything… Maybe you should be a bigger person and reach out to help them in any way you can, in ways that you feel they did not help you… Maybe you will get to know them in a different way, on a different level… and perhaps you will even come to understand why they made the choices they made when you were a child… If you don’t try to reach out to them now, you may never have the chance again. Once they’re gone, you will never be able to get answers to any of your lingering questions… Resource Box - Danielle Hollister (2004) is the Publisher of BellaOnline Quotations Zine - A free newsletter for quote lovers featuring more than 10,000 quotations in dozens of categories like - love, friendship, children, inspiration, success, wisdom, family, life, and many more. Add Your Design To A T-Shirt

By John Gibb Todays software programs and easy-to-do techniques can turn anyone to a T-shirt designer. By following simple guidelines you can increase your skills to that of an T-shirt printing expert, given the fact that you have never worked at a T-shirt printing company. From creating your environmental organizations theme T-shirt while cleaning your local park to adding a new garment for your kids soccer match next weekend, making your own T-shirt can be an exciting and genuinely artistic experience for everyone involved. You hear other people say it is an easy and fun thing to do for a special event, but you lack the confidence needed to pull this off. Well, it is time to stop thinking that you are incapable of exploring this type of artistic expression as customizing your clothes can be really fun as well as extremely simple; even if you mess up the first time there is always room for improvement. All you will need are some regular household supplies, like an iron and an iron board, a white or lightly colored T-shirt, a clear dry pillowcase, your choice of crayons, some pieces of white paper, a pair of scissors, and some transfer printing paper which you can purchase from your local craft store. These are all the materials you will need to successfully complete your T-shirt project. You may begin by designing your own image using any of the software programs in your computers memory, or you can choose from a vast variety of ready-to-use designs stored in the image bank of the software you select to use. Insert by copying and pasting the images you want to print into a blank page document and resize the icon so it fits the screen and it does not cross the boarders of your documents ruler. For greater impact, you can add text along with the image. If you are doing this with your kids, a clever idea is to print your childs favorite picture or phrase and let them select the type of colors they want to illustrate their T-shirts theme. The phrase Best Friends, for instance, can be placed above the picture itself, or be placed one upon the other so as to create a more personal effect. Be careful of the coloring you will use for the phrase as you do want it to be visible when you print it. Group the image and wording together so you can move them at the same time and then flip your grouped images horizontal in order to create a mirror image that will appear correctly when ironed onto the T-shirt. Then it is time for the actual transfer. Print the design you have just created onto the transfer paper. Leave the transfer paper somewhere safely to dry completely; it is best to follow the specifications of the papers manufacturer. After your image dries, you can cut with the scissors any excess paper living a thin -inch margin around the printed area. Preheat the iron to the hottest setting and prepare the surface you will use to press your design onto the T-shirt. First, place a pillowcase on the surface and iron it so as to eliminate any existing wrinkles. Then place your T-shirt on top the pillowcase and iron it as well. Put the printed transfer paper onto the surface of the T-shirt you want it to appear and iron it for at least 2-3 minutes. Move the iron from the corners to the center and be sure to press it with at least 50 pounds of pressure. Then let your T-shirt cool down before attempting to remove the paper from its surface. Ten minutes later you can remove the paper by holding the T-shirt with one hand and peeling the paper from any of its corners with the other. Its that simple! So, try this easy-to-do T-shirt printing project next time you want to surprise someone with a thoughtful gift and I am sure the outcome of your efforts will astonish you. How to Have Fun at Home When You Can’t Afford to Go Out

By Morgan James Are you strapped for cash? Bored out of your mind? Tired of watching meaningless TV shows? Here are some ideas for you that dont cost as much money as going out on the town. Have people over You can organize any kind of get together that you want: you can have a few girls over for tea, or you can have a bigger party (but remember to tell guests to BYOB!). For the price of a few bags of chips and some pop, you can have a great night. Theme nights Theme nights can be a lot of fun. Have girls night where you all paint your nails and do pedicures. Everyone can bring their stuff, and you can all mix and choose. If you have kids, you can organize a scavenger hunt. It can be fun and simple. Play Games You can play Balderdash or Scattergories with materials that you probably have around the house. For Balderdash, simply take a dictionary and have one person find a really hard word. Everyone invents a definition of the word and writes it down (the person with the dictionary copies the word down too). Then, when the person with the dictionary reads it aloud, everyone has to guess which the correct definition is. You get one point every time someone guesses your wrong answer, and you get one point for every answer you guess correctly. For Scattergories, simply write the alphabet down the side of a piece of a paper. Agree on a time limit. An easy way to do this is to put on a CD and use the length of one song as the timer. Then you choose a category and have to list items in that category for each letter that you can. You get one point for each original answer you have (as in, an answer nobody else has). You get two points for alliterative answers. For instance, if the category was Boy Bands and you choose Hermans Hermits, you get two points. Some good categories include cities in a particular state, things that rhyme with late, one word movie titles, actors in movies with Julia Roberts, famous painters, rappers, or whatever you choose. Organize a swap Youve watched every movie that you own. So organize to swap other peoples movies. If you always trade, then youll never lose your movies. You can even keep track of who has what, and write your name on your movies that you lend out. You can also organize a clothing swap, which is when your friends bring together the clothes that they dont want anymore and put them all in a pile. You can find new clothes and get rid of your old ones. The ones that nobody wants you can take to the St. Vincent de Paul. Stretch your Creativity Challenge yourself to do something that you have never done before. Write a sonnet; sketch a picture. Youll be surprised at what interest you. Go to the Park Okay, this one isnt really staying at home, but its always a nice way to get out and have fun. The Same Day Pay Day Loan

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tiffany_Walker]Tiffany Walker Is it actually possible to get a same day payday loan? Yes it is but only if you consider a day to be the full length of its 24 hours. It is very difficult to get a same day payday loan that pays the same morning, afternoon or evening as the day you ordered it on. Usually you have to wait the full twenty-four hours before the money is deposited into your account. How do so many payday loan companies, both online and offline, get away with this type of false advertising? The key is that technically 24 hours is how we do legally define a full day. When you apply for a same day payday loan the bulk of your day is often spent waiting by a fax machine or by your telephone for the loan to be approved. No loan goes forward without approval, no matter how much in a hurry you are to get the money and no matter what a payday loan website’s advertising copy promises you. Sometimes the approval of the loan itself can be very time consuming. It means sending a void check plus your ID through a fax machine to the payday loan company. This often means xeroxing your ID first which can mean a trip out of your home. In this case you might as well just go to the payday loan place that is at the closest proximity to you if the point is to save time by not leaving your home! After you have faxed your ID and a voided check you might not be approved immediately. The same day pay day loan cash may still ask to phone your employer to see if you have a job. This is their way of confirming that you do have a job and that your paycheck will cover the amount of money that you are eligible to be advanced by the company. Tiffany Walker can help you understand the simple process of getting a payday loan. Click here for more: [http://www.paydayfluid.com/]Same Day Pay Day Loan. Bedding Plants and Plugs (small plants)

By Johnathan Sanders It is not difficult to grow bedding plants from seeds, and you may be surprised to know you do not need to have a greenhouse or some hot room to grow them in. I have managed to grow my plants by placing them in an old carton/pot covered in a polythene bag. However, please remember to leave the pot where sunlight can get to it, i.e., a window ledge or a balcony. In a previous article I have advised purchasing seedlings and bulbs from places like, a local fair or pound shop ( quite a phenomena here in the UK). Most magazine tend to have quite good offers on seedlings as well. Alternatively you can buy a young plant which means you do not have to incubate them like the seedlings. Bedding plants are cheaper when bought in trays and can be bought from most garden centres and the like. Although, if you can afford it, it maybe worthwhile buying them in pots as they generally tend to grow better. Alternatively you can buy young plants, called plugs, but please do check for obvious signs, such as leaves going yellow or mouldy. Gardening can be cheap and fun as well and if done regularly, does not really need to take up a lot of time. A simple well kept lawn, surrounded by small flower beds, can make a big difference to your garden. Remember a lot of these items can be bought online for real cheap. Check out www.lawn-mower-parts.info, for further information. Do remember to water your plants regularly, especially in hot weather. John Sanders Took up gardening recently and really enjoying it. http://www.lawn-mower-parts.info Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Johnathan_Sanders http://EzineArticles.com/?Bedding-Plants-and-Plugs-(small-plants)&id=45872 crossing the border to buy xanax buy referrer html stats xanax online rx xanax purchase xanax without a prescription

How To Choose The Best Wedding Invitation Paper To Meet Your Style

By Diane Winter There are a number of things that need to be done in order to make a wedding come together smoothly. The first thing that guests will see in terms of your wedding is the invitation. When they view the wedding invitation, they will quickly get an idea as to the formality of the wedding and the theme of the wedding. This is why it is so important that your wedding invitation paper corresponds well with the wedding itself. The first step in choosing the right paper is to be aware of how formal or informal your wedding is going to be. By choosing a very formal looking paper when you are having a very informal wedding, guests will be thrown off and their attire may not be appropriate. So try to make the formality of the invitation paper match the formality of the wedding itself. The next step in picking the perfect paper is to match the style of the paper to the style of the wedding. For example, the colors and design at my ceremony and reception all matched my wedding dress.
