Hair: How To Get Hair That Will Make Others Envious

By CD Mohatta How to get hair that makes others envious? What qualities are needed for that? How to manage hair so that it remains healthy at all the times and how to avoid hair damage? Some important questions that need to be answered to get hair that makes others envious. Here are few quick tips- Hair Care Tip 1 Brush gently. Don’t brush wet hair. Untangle hair with fingers gently. Any rough action will damage the cuticle and expose the shaft. This causes long-term damage to the hair. Keep your cuticles healthy and half the battle is won. Cuticles are like the walls of a house. If the walls are strong the house will remain strong, otherwise everything will come down. Hair Care Tip 2 Healthy cuticles- to manage the health of the cuticles use a leave in conditioner. Don’t use harsh detergents or soaps on the hair. Avoid all types of chemical treatments and avoid heat as much as possible. All the chemical treatments damage the cuticle. Otherwise they would not work. Keep away from sunshine because sun damages hair. Wear a hat that does not allow light to enter. Whenever you go for a swim in the sea, wear a protective cap and take bath immediately afterwards. Chlorine in the swimming pools can damage the hair. Take protection from that. After swimming in the pool, use a detergent that will neutralize the chlorine. If you don’t take these steps, you may even suffer hair loss. These are some small tips to protect your hair. Like Rome, good and healthy scalp hair does not build in a day. Take care everyday and get envious looks from others. This article is only for informative purposes. Memories of Grandfather’s Billiard Room

By Nathaniel Jacobson I always loved that my Grandfather had a billiard room in his home. I used to spend a lot of time with him when I was young. He taught me to shoot stick, as he called it, when I was maybe 8 years old. My Grandparents would entertain quite frequently, and they would regularly invite some of their closest friends over for a banquet and cocktails. Their gatherings would often run into the wee hours, by which time I was expected to be sleeping. I would usually spend an hour or so reading each night, but nights like those were too exciting to miss out on. Honestly, how could they expect me to sleep with all that activity going on downstairs? After dinner, Grandmother would be in the parlor room having tea and chatting with the other ladies. Grandfather and his guests would retire to the billiard room or the lounge as he liked to call it. The odd time I would sneak out of bed, and sit on the staircase just listening to all the activity and laughter. The gents smoked cigars, sipped brandy, and talked about whatever older men talked about back then. Snooker was the game of choice. The lounge was a gorgeous and stately room. It had sixteen foot ceilings with stunning plaster moldings. The walls were covered with some of the finest oak I have ever seen, and there were vast bookcases built into them. Along one wall was a beautifully carved bar, and behind that a seemingly endless supply of spirits. Grandfather kept his phonograph in there, along with his prized collection of jazz records. One night it was rather late and, again, I was unable to sleep. So I got out of bed and got dressed in my Sunday best. I ventured downstairs and made my way into the lounge as though I were one of the guests. When he finally noticed me, Grandfather seemed so completely bemused by the sight before him. He welcomed me into the lounge as though I were his long lost friend, and asked if I would be interested in shooting some stick. Aye! Rack em up, Pops! I exclaimed. We played a quick game, which I am sure he let me win, and when I finished my tea I went back up to bed. That is truly one of the fondest memories of my youth. Not a day goes by that I dont think of that dear, sweet man. Not a day goes by that I dont shoot some stick. Nathaniel Jacobson lives and works in NYC. Each night he shoots stick in his lounge, often with his 8 year old grandson. When he is not daydreaming and reminiscing about the past, he does freelance writing for a number of websites including http://www.pooltablesandbilliardsgames.com a site that features info on accessories for your pool table and more. Supplemental Security Income: A Valuable Aid To The Disabled

By Aasheesh Jain Disability makes one feel equally miserable about oneself irrespective of his social stature, earnings and age. But as the time passes by one gets accustomed to things, adjusts to the surrounding and starts living. Enjoying more and more, and complaining less and less one goes about the curious business of living. That’s, loosely speaking, the ‘philosophical’ part of the story though I don’t claim to be philosopher of any sort whatsoever. Now the harder part. The philosophical distinction between childhood disability and adult disability is also reflected in the disability benefits one is entitled to, albeit in a slightly different fashion. To put it straight, the law makes a distinction between the disabled below and above 18 years of age. Supplemental Security Income or SSI is a social benefit program instituted by the Social Security Administration (SSA). The SSA pays a monthly sum to those whose income is lower on account of old age, blindness or disability. Most of those under 18 years of age are considered children and the ones above as adults by the SSA. To be eligible for the SSI the rules are much the same for children and adults, but ‘disability’ in case of children is by definition more accommodating than the one employed for the adults. The amount one gets as SSI is meant to meet one’s very basic needs because it is assumed that a disabled person may not be able to earn enough. The need of one person living in a certain condition may be different from another in another set of circumstances. Therefore, the amount payable also differs. For instance, it is estimated that the disabled children living with their parents in the State of California need a sum of $722 per month. For those who are blind the amount is higher at $ 901, as their expenses are higher. If, in the opinion of the authorities, you have money to spend on your basic needs in view of your sources of income, the amount is deducted from the payable sum and what remains is what you get for the SSI. Finding Affordable Transcription for Research Interviews

By Anne Hickley If youve conducted some research including one-to-one interviews, and then realised how much work is involved in transcribing them, youll probably be looking for an affordable transcription service. There are many transcription services available but sometimes an affordable transcription service can seem hard to find. Transcription is not cheap, because it is a lot more involved than copy typing, but that doesnt mean you cant find affordable transcription, and whats more, by providing good quality recordings you can make the transcription more affordable, as it will take less time to complete. You could do the transcription yourself, but if you are not a fast touch-typist and do not have specialist transcription equipment then it will take you a very long time. I have had clients come to me saying they started the work themselves and it was taking them 20 hours to produce a transcript of a 1-hour recording. Thats why they ended up using a transcription service! The most important thing to remember is that its just not possible to type as fast as you speak. Even an experienced transcriptionist will be able to average four times as long for a good, clear one-to-one interview so an hour of recording will take an average of four hours to transcribe. ( Industry standards obtained from the Industry Production Standards Guide (I998), published by OBC, Columbus, OH, USA) Transcriptionists also have to make sense of whats being said, punctuate the speech correctly and use the right homophones (words like there/their/theyre that sound the same but are spelt differently.) So how can you make sure that your transcript is clear, in order to get an affordable transcription price? Basically, the easier you make the transcription for the transcriptionist, the more likely they are to be able to give you an affordable transcription quote. First of all, use the best transcription equipment you can afford, and make sure its fit for purpose. This means that for interviews you should have a recorded with an external microphone rather than one built into the recorder, which is only designed to pick up one voice dictating. For focus groups you should have several microphones so that all participants are close to a mike, and for conferences the speakers should have good microphones and there should also be people in the audience with roving microphones to take around to any audience members wanting to ask a question. More and more transcriptionists are only taking on digital work now, rather than tapes, so to give yourself the broadest base to chose from you might want to consider using a digital recording method. These are also usually better quality. Next, you should prepare well before each interview. Make sure that, if at all possible you have arranged a quiet meeting room, as background noise will dramatically increase the time taken to transcribe the recording, as the transcriptionist may have to listen to sections several times in order to capture the interview speech. It is helpful to spell out your interviewees name at the beginning of the tape, before starting the interview, and speak out any information you would like on the transcript header e.g. the date, the job title of your interviewee etc. During the interview, unless you need to interrupt in order to take back control of the interview, try not to speak over your interviewee. Often in a normal conversation we say yeah, yeah, yeah or right or OK more to indicate were listening than for any other reason. Every time you say that you are likely to be obscuring a much more important word or group of words spoken by your interviewee. After the interview, it is enormously helpful if you can include a list of key words for the transcriptionist. Although were happy to go on a Google hunt, searching the internet to find out how to spell technical terms, names of drugs, names of organisations etc., if you can provide this info in advance it certainly saves time, and saving time saves you money, again reaching toward that goal of an affordable transcription price. Technical work will always be more expensive than non-technical, but providing a crib sheet of key words should reduce the cost. Most transcriptionists work in a standard format, whether that be tabular, tabbed, interviews shown as initials or full names etc. Again most are happy to work to your specifications, but the standard format might well be cheaper, so think carefully about whether you need something different or not. Find out what the standard format is in advance if it concerns you, and you may be able to adapt it to your needs. If, for instance, its essential that you have speakers in different fonts or different colours, this will add to the price. It might be more cost-effective for you to put this in when the basic transcript is returned to you! Finally, give some serious thought to whether or not you need a verbatim transcription. Verbatim transcription includes every repeated word, every um and erm, all those filler phrases like you know and know what I mean that may be repeated a hundred times in one interview, and can also include pauses, coughs, throat clearing etc. if required. Needless to say if this takes longer. If the transcriptionist can filter out all this stuff the transcript is quicker. In my company the cheapest level is what we call intelligent verbatim which cuts out all these fillers but leaves the rest exactly as its spoken. Different transcriptionists work this differently though, so always check when youre phoning for your quote. Here are some brief examples. Somewhat more expensive is edited, which corrects the grammar and any mispronounced words as well as knocking out all the fillers. Verbatim: Erm well, I dunno really, know what I mean? I mean, you know, when I asked them what Marys, er, um, condish, condit, condition was, they said like erm Im afraid we cant, erm, tell you that, Mrs. Smith, cause you aint a relative. Intelligent Verbatim: Well, I dunno really. I mean when I asked them what Marys condition was they said Im afraid we cant tell you that, Mrs Smith, cause you aint a relative. Edited: Well I dont know really. I mean when I asked them what Marys condition was they said Im afraid we cant tell you that, Mrs Smith, because you are not a relative. You can see that a whole extra line of typing is required for the verbatim work in just those few short sentences. There are occasions when verbatim is required depending on your topic it might be required for legal reasons, or you might be studying the language. But if you really dont need it, dont end up paying for it! There are many excellent reasons for interviewing groups of people, but dont do this in order to try to reduce the transcription cost! It takes much longer to transcribe a group of more than two or three people (including the moderator/interviewer) because of the time taken to distinguish the different voices and the fact that people will inevitably talk over each other, especially when they get excited, enthusiastic, impassioned or angry. And finally, a note of caution: remember that the cheapest transcription quote might not be the most affordable one in the end. There is an oft-quoted phrase: if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Will it really be cost-effective to send your hard-won interviews to the cheapest service if what comes back is gobbledygook and you have to go through the whole thing correcting every other word? How much time will you then waste that could have been spent more productively on your analysis? Anne Hickley has many years experience in a wide variety of administrative posts. Do You Need the Services of a Los Angeles Wedding Consultant?

By Eric Patterson If you are interested in planning a Los Angeles wedding you are not alone. Each year, in the Los Angeles area, a large number of weddings take place. Planning a wedding can be a difficult task, especially if you dont know what you are doing. For assistance with planning the wedding of your dreams, you may want to seek the assistance of a Los Angeles wedding consultant. When it comes to wedding consultants, there are many individuals who are unsure exactly what they do. Many believe that wedding consultants are also wedding planners. While there are some individuals who work as both, not all do. Wedding consultants are individuals who have knowledge or experience with weddings. These professionals offer their services to couples who are looking to get married. A wedding planner is defined as an individual who handles all of the planning aspects of a wedding. The duties of a wedding planner often includes booking and paying for all of the services that you need at your wedding. They not only help to ensure that your wedding is the wedding of your dreams, but they also make it happen. When compared to a wedding consultant, wedding planners often have more duties. Since a wedding planner tends to be expensive, there are many couples who make the decision to plan their own wedding. However, as previously mentioned, planning a wedding is not an easy task. While a couple may be able to plan their own wedding, they may need professional assistance or advice; that is where a Los Angeles wedding consultant may come in. One of the many ways that a Los Angeles wedding consultant could help you with your wedding is by helping you develop a wedding budget. Weddings can be expensive and not everyone has the money to have the wedding of their dreams. A wedding consultant may be able to help you develop a budget that will not only fit your finances, but help you to achieve the wedding that you have always dreamed about. A wedding planner may also be able to help you cut costs by offering money saving suggestions. Wedding consultants are most commonly used for first time marriages, but not always. If you are getting married, after undergoing a divorce, you may be wondering about second wedding etiquette. Second wedding etiquette is important to many brides, maybe even yourself. If you want to have an elegant wedding, while making sure it is properly done, you may need the services of a Los Angeles wedding consultant. Many wedding consultants are educated on wedding etiquette, including etiquette for second weddings. Once you and your partner have decided to use the services of a professional Los Angeles wedding consultant, you will have to find someone to work with. You are urged to examine your local phone book, search the internet, or ask those that you know for recommendations. For a small fee, you may be able to receive valuable information and advice on how to successfully plan your own wedding. Eric Patterson is a writer for Consultants Galore where you can find an expert Los Angeles wedding consultant and other relevant resources. How To Save Money On Common Beauty Treatments By Doing Them At Home

By Gregg Hall Beauty is very important to the modern woman. Women go to extreme lengths to help them stay looking young and beautiful. Face peels, plastic surgery, and liposuction are becoming a popular trend. These kinds of treatments are not right for everyone. Many women choose to do things at home that are easy, non invasive, and less costly. My wife use to go to the beauty salon all the time to get these things done, but now there are so many really good products available that you can use right at home. It really is no longer necessary to spend hundreds of dollars at the beauty salon; now women can spend a fraction of that amount by purchasing their supplies at the local drug store. Plus there is a wide variety of products available at the drug store so women can find the perfect product for their skin type. Some of the tips I have learned from being around my wife all these years have really made an impact on me. She is a wonderful woman and dedicated to keeping yourself looking great, her are a few of her tips: The first thing you can do to keep you looking beautiful is eating right. With a well balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables you can stay at optimum health and keep your skin, hair, and nails looking great. Another important part of diet would be making sure you get your recommended eight to ten glasses of water a day. Water will hydrate your skin, and cleanse your body of unwanted toxins. Regular exercise is another way to help you stay young and active. Exercise will help keep you healthy and looking great. If you feel great about yourself it will show. Exercise will also help improve skin tone, digest food easier, and rid the body of unwanted toxins. Good hygiene is another easy to stay looking great. Making sure you keep your body clean and free of dead skin will help your skin look great. A shower in the morning may help you get ready for the day, while a shower in the evening may help you wash the stress of the day away and prepare you for sleep. Get out and get some sun. The sun can be harmful if you do not wear the proper protection, so make sure you protect your skin. The sun provides natural vitamins and energy for our bodies. Happiness is another important factor in beauty. If you are happy with your life than you will look more healthy and young. When you are surrounded by loved ones you will look and feel better about yourself. Do remember that you need to love yourself as well. When you are happy with who you are and your life you will have a glow about you. When you are happy it seems to boost the immune system and lengthen the life span as well. Guide to Choosing and Working with an Executive Search Firm

By Udit Bhandari For companies finding the right search partner is the first and probably the most crucial step in making sure their recruitment strategy pays off. When a company needs to fill a critical position its time to look for a specialist executive search firm which can work as a partner and not just a vendor. The search firm needs to totally understand the companys business philosophy, work culture and management style to find not only the rightly qualified candidate but also the candidate who will fit in the best within the company. Picking the wrong search firm can be disastrous as it can result in delayed or no recruitment or worse recruiting an anti fit candidate which can really hurt the company. Some steps a company must take before hiring an executive search firm include meeting the recruiter/s who will actually work on their project, this will enable the company to judge and also educate the recruiter on what they are exactly looking for and what their company is all about. The second important step is to set mutually acceptable terms of engagement; this would include payment terms, deadline to search completion, replacement (attrition) policy, non disclosure agreements etc. Its best to clear out all doubts at this stage so that no complications arise mid way or at the end of the search. Thirdly the company must always be in contact with the recruiter during the search, sometime to guide the recruiter in the right direction and sometimes to give much needed feedback to the recruiters efforts. The company must make the recruiter feel as if he/she is an extension of the companies recruitment team thats one way of making the recruiter totally involved in the companies project and give his/her hundred percent. Search firms such as Servnet, a premier executive search firm from India promote their clients to be continuously involved with the search to get best results. Top Ten Cookies

By Ann Krause Everyone has their favorite cookie. And with all the different brands and variety of cookies, nobody is going to agree on which cookie is absolutely the best. That’s what surveys are conducted. Obviously, each survey conducted, depending on who conducts it and where it’s conducted is going to produce different results. Having said that, there is a very good chance that many of the same cookies will appear on each list, even if not in the same order. What follows is one such survey which was conducted during a charity event in the small town of Roselle, NJ in the United States of America. While this survey is probably not representative of the rest of the world, it will probably give you a decent idea of the cookies that many people enjoy. Having said that, here is the top 10 list from that small little town of Roselle, NJ. Number 10 on the list is Nabisco’s Chips Ahoy. While most people agree that they are one of the better chocolate chip cookies on the market, their complaint is that the cookie could probably be a little heartier and filled with more chips. They do like how well they stand up to milk. Number 9 on the list is Pepperidge Farm Lido cookies. Pepperidge farm has always made some excellent quality cookies with the Lido being one of the more popular styles. The biggest complaint about all the Pepperidge cookies is how expensive they are and how few you get in a bag. That’s the price you pay for quality. Number 8 on the list is Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies. Those who took the survey agree that these are some of the tastiest chocolate chip cookies around. There only complaint about these is in the size. They are very small and break easily. But they do love how many you get in a box. Number 7 on the list is Keebler’s Vienna Fingers. These have been a favorite of people for many years with its vanilla cookie and cream filled center. While most people love the unique taste, the biggest complain they have about these cookies is not enough cream in the center. Number 6 on the list is Nabisco’s Fig Newtons. This actually came as a surprise to many who viewed the survey. The reason for the high response was because many of the people involved in the survey were elderly and they said they enjoyed the cookies not so much for the taste but that they were great for staying regular. Number 5 on the list is Pepperidge Farm Chocolate Dipped Soft Baked Chocolate Chunk Cookies. Needless to say, these cookies are a chocolate lovers delight. Their one complaint aside from the price and how few cookies you get is that you really can’t eat a lot of these. Number 4 on the list is Nabisco’s Lorna Doones. This cookie, coming in at number 4, was a bit of a surprise. But the folks taking the survey said they loved the cookie because it was light, got plenty in a box, wasn’t too expensive and had an addictive taste. Number 3 on the list is Nabisco Chewy Chips Ahoy. Overwhelmingly, the response to this cookie was that it was a big improvement on the original, though they wish the cookies were a little bit bigger and had a few more chocolate chips. Number 2 on the list is Nabisco Oreo Cookies. It was actually a surprise that this cookie came in at number 2. Most thought it was a sure lock on number 1 as most people agree this cookie has a distinct chocolate taste and are fun to pull apart. Number 1 on the list is the reason the original Oreo cookies came in at number 2. The Double Stuff version of this classic came in at number 1. The reason? More of that delicious vanilla cream to lick off the cookie. How do you argue with logic like that? Cool, Clear Water

By Anna Hart Drinking water is essential to humans. Adults lose about 10 glasses of water daily. Some is replenished in the food we eat, and some is replenished in beverages, but most is replenished in the form of drinking water. Some people are claiming that room-temperature drinking water is the only good water. Others claim it should be warm or icy or cold drinking water. Who is right? In Cool Water, song writer Bob Nolan sings: All day I face the barren waste Without the taste of water, Cool water. Old Dan and I, with throats burned dry, And souls that cry for water, Cool, clear, water. Cold Drinking Water Old Dan and his rider were dying for cold drinking water. In fact, a few days without water, and both would literally be dead. More than two thirds of a humans weight is water. The human brain is 95% water and human blood is 82%. Old Dans rider would show signs of dehydration if he lost as little as 2% of his bodys water. His short-term memory would grow fuzzy. He would have trouble focusing on small things and experience daytime fatigue, commonly caused by dehydration. They needed drinking water preferably, cold drinking water. Why Cold Drinking Water? You may have heard that drinking water should be taken warm, even in hot weather. There are benefits, however, to choosing cold drinking water. * It is more refreshing. * It is more easily absorbed into your blood. * It may burn more calories. * It has zero calories, unlike other drinks. Myths about Cold Drinking Water For many years, people have circulated various myths about cold drinking water. These have no scientific basis, but are offered here for your information. * Myth #1: Cold drinking water after meals causes cancer by solidifying ingested fat, slowing digestion, and lining intestine walls with the fat. Actually, body heat cancels out any effects of cold food or water. * Myth #2: Cold drinking water after eating fruit is bad for you. This one, around since at least 1923, is probably based on the truth that too much beverage, at any temperature, may dilute digestive juices. * Myth #3: Cold drinking water harms delicate stomach lining. Currently on the Internet, this has no truth. Stomach lining is extremely robust, as it must be to withstand the highly caustic digestive acids. For years, health experts have recommended that average adults have at least eight glasses of water daily. That amount should be increased if you exercise, if the weather is hot, or when humidity is low. Overweight adults, who require more water, should add an additional glass for every 25 pounds of excess weight in order to speed metabolism. The body needs water, and the most important question for most people is not whether the water should be warm or cold, but whether they are drinking enough. 2007, Anna Hart. Decorative Painting

By Elizabeth Morgan Youve probably been to houses that have a unique feel to them just because one of the walls in the living room had been done decoratively. A wall could be color blocked, given a marble effect, or, perhaps just sponged. These techniques are not as complicated as they sound. Color blocking involves painting different blocks of colors of varying sizes onto a particular wall. A thing to remember if you are using this decorative form in your living room is that color blocking lends an air of sophistication to a room, and because of the attention it attracts, it is best to keep it to one wall only. Sponging is even simpler. All you have to do is paint a base coat of the color you want onto the wall. Once it dries, use a damp sponge to apply a glaze. Similar to sponging is raggingafter the base coat dries, use a crushed cloth dipped in glaze and simply blot it on the wall. Marbling perhaps is the more difficult option, meant for the more patient ones. It involves imitating the vein effect of marble onto a wall. One tip to keep in mind while marbling is to keep a piece of the marble in front of you before you start painting, and use a thin brush for the vein effect. These techniques might seem recent and modern, but theyve actually been around since the Egyptians painted the walls of their tombs. While decorative painting started as a specialization, and was indulged in only by the upper class in the 17th and 18th centuries, it has now become an art form that can be used by both specialists and homeowners. Painting provides detailed information on Painting, Decorative Painting, Interior Painting, Landscape Painting and more. Painting is affiliated with Garden Sculpture.
