Can Message Board Marketing Work For You?

By Lisa Packer One of the things that makes the Internet fun is all the message boards and forums. You can sound off about nearly anything, get and give advice, and even build a relationship or two. But message boards can be great for another reason: Theyre a free, effective place to market your business. You spend nothing but your time, but you make valuable connections with potential customers, and get your name out to members and guests alike. With a link to your website included in your signature, you also can generate traffic. And, if those links are visible to guests, and the forum is indexed by search engines, those links may be counted by the spiders and improve your ranking. Naturally, there are rules to follow if you want to effectively add forums to your marketing arsenal. First of all, choose wisely. Keeping up to date with forum happenings takes time, and you want to make the most of it. So be sure you are posting on message boards that are visited by your prospects. Youll also get the most benefit from boards that allow you to put a link to your website in your signature, and that make those signatures visible to guests as well as members. Your signature should contain a link to your site, as well as a tag line. Be careful not to be too pushy in your signature. A quiet link and your USP are more effective than a blatant ad. Nothing ruins a forum faster than a bunch of pushy, in-your-face ads trying to disguise themselves as posts. Make sure your posts are genuine additions to the conversation, not just commercials, or youll wind up doing yourself more harm than good. And you may even find yourself banned and your messages erased. Youll get more out of your message board involvement if you put more in. Ask and answer questions. Give helpful advice, without mentioning your business. Remember that your goal is to build relationships. The more good, quality free advice you can give in your area of expertise the better. Besides just being a good thing to do, it builds goodwill and positive exposure. Think of forums as an online version of a networking group. You dont want to be the guy in the polyester suit, pushing his way into everyones conversation, and irritating them with constant commercials. You do want to be the guy who leaves with a stack of business cards and several new relationships. If youve got the time, and can resist the temptation to be pushy, message board marketing may be just the boost your business is looking for. Does your marketing forge an emotional connection with your prospects? It can. Losing 5, 10, or 20 Pounds is the Easy Part, the Challenge is Keeping the Weight Off

By Adam Tijerina Depending of which statistics you read - less than a third of all people who lose weight are able to keep it off permanently or 4 out of 5 people who lose weight are not successful at keeping it off, leading to a yo-yo dieting regimen that recurs each year as they gain and lose weight. I am reminded of the movie Dangerous Minds where Michelle Pfeiffer plays the part of a an ex-marine teacher who teaches in a tough inner city school. She starts off by giving all the students an ‘A’ and it’s their job to keep and maintain that ‘A.’ She says it’s much harder to keep an ‘A’ than get one. Anyone can get an ‘A.’ Anyone can also lose weight. There are many safe and unsafe ways to lose weight. The people who have the most trouble keeping the weight off are the ones who lose weight rapidly with the latest fad diet or diet pill. There is not much work involved in losing weight with one of these methods. The healthy eating and living habits have not been developed that lead to a healthy lifestyle. Quick fixes do not last long. Just as quickly as you lose the weight you’ll usually gain it all back and then some. So how do you keep the weight off? How do you become one of the few who lose weight and keep it off? The people who do this successfully and permanently are the ones who develop better habits and make minor modifications to their life’s choices. They change the meaning that food plays in their life. They add some activity to their couch potato lifestyle. Can you do this? Yes, but it will take some work and effort. The only way to keep weight off is to start eating a proper balanced diet and start exercising to keep the weight off. And it doesn’t have to be the traditional exercise that many people have in minds when they think of exercise. You can take up pole dancing. I kid you not. They actually give classes on pole dancing and they are becoming pretty popular. Or for a little less risqu you can take up regular dancing. Set yourself some short term realistic goals. Try to keep the weight off for a week. Then 2 weeks. Then a month. Then 3 months and then 6 months and then for good. You can do this with the right motivation. You need motivation from your friends and family. If you have friends who are always trying to get you to go out and eat make sure you suggest some healthier restaurants. Combine the right activities and eating habits and you’ll control your weight indefinitely. Another tip is to start dating if you’re single. That’ll keep you motivated to keep the weight off so you can attract a mate. And then once you start dating take walks. Play basketball, or tennis, or learn dancing. Not only will you have fun but you won’t put the weight back on. Learning how to keep weight off is just as important as losing the weight in the first place. You don’t want to keep jumping from diet to diet. Simple changes can lead to impressive results over time. Take the first step. Lose the weight once and keep it off. Passionate Eating

By Annette Colby Food is an important part of a balanced diet. Fran Lebowitz The Iranian movie, The Fish Fall In Love is a film that speaks of eating and falling in love. It is based on the premise that people fall into two categories; some that eat their food with no passion and the others who eat passionately, the second group are successful in love. Are you madly in love with luscious food, taking the time to fill your senses with the delicious aroma of food? When was the last time you sat down and ate with passion, without feeling bad by thinking about calories, fat, or whats healthy and unhealthy? Imagine savoring the joy of eating the smell, visual appeal, taste and texture and being alive during each bite. Truly experiencing food is one of the great joys in life. This week, challenge yourself to one meal that you will eat passionately and with a sense of aliveness. Put away, for one meal, all concerns about gaining or losing weight. Let there be no counting calories, and no following strict food rules. Take a moment and imagine this to be a meal of complete freedom, joy, and passion. Close your eyes for a moment and breathe in deeply. Relax. Imagine what your ideal meal would be. Really let yourself go. Is your ideal meal something your mom made for you as a child? Or something you had in a restaurant once? Is there an appetizer, salad, main course, a favorite drink, coffee and dessert? Or just a few special foods? Allow the colors and arrangement of the food to come into mind. If several things seem appealing, or if no particular foods suggest themselves, ask yourself about the qualities of what will satisfy your hunger: Texture (crunchy? smooth? chewy?), temperature (hot? warm? cool? cold?), density (heavy? light?), taste (sweet? sour? bitter? salty?), and so on. What meal or combination of foods would let your taste buds soar, your body melt with pleasure, and your mind feel the exhilaration of joy? When you have identified a specific meal, open your eyes and write down your menu. Will you follow through and allow yourself the experience of creating this loving experience for yourself? Notice any objections you feel about doing this: * This is stupid. * This sounds good, but I dont have the time. * Whats the point? * If I enjoy the food, I wont be able to stop eating. * I get bored paying attention to the meal. * I dont want to be aware of eating, its embarrassing. * I dont want to give up the numbing out experience of eating. The Experience Find out what it might be like to bring back the joyfulness of eating. Imagine preparing for this meal for a friend or lover that you had not seen in quite some time. Have fun planning the details and anticipating with excitement how the meal will flow. What details would make this meal absolutely perfect? Is this a meal you can prepare at home? Do you need to call your mom or relative and get the recipe? Now pick a date that you are willing to cook for yourself. Yes, you read that last sentence correctly. It did mention the words cook and for yourself. However, were only talking one meal. And, theres no need to do this by yourself. Unless of course you want to. Enlist the enthusiasm of your very best friend or the support of your partner. Explain the purpose of your meal is to savor and enjoy the entire process of eating. Shopping You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces just good food from fresh ingredients. ~ Julia Child ~ Get a shopping list together of the items you will need. For this one meal, choose beautiful, fresh ingredients. Pick foods that are alive and full of vitality. How about adding a few other items to your list? Maybe indulging in a fine bottle of wine, or special expensive imported water? Splurge for this meal. Its okay if you only have one glass of the wine and end up throwing three quarters of the bottle away. No one will tell your mother that youve been wasteful. Go ahead, live on the edge. Indulge. While youre out shopping, remember the fresh flowers, candles, and maybe even a setting of special original china. Preparing Enchant, stay beautiful and graceful, but do this, eat well. Bring the same consideration to the preparation of your food as you devote to your appearance. Let your dinner be a poem, like your dress. Letters to Emily Charles Pierre Monselet, French journalist and author. (1825-1888) Cooking may not be an activity youve done lately. It takes a little time to prepare a meal. So plan ahead, invite your friend or partner, and approach this act with love and anticipation. Begin the process of cooking with awareness. Notice the colors of the vegetables you chose. Hear the sounds of them being chopped, and the sizzle as they saute. Deeply inhale the aromas as they begin to fill your kitchen. Maximize your anticipation by looking at, touching, and smelling the food as you chop, cut, arrange ingredients. The Environment Create a memory for this meal. Choose a place to eat that is peaceful, attractive, and pleases you. Let your heart choose a special cloth or scarf for the table. Arrange beautiful, living flowers in the center of the table or sprinkle rose petals around the dinner setting. Dim the lights and light the candles. Create atmosphere by listening to calming, relaxing music such as ocean waves, babbling brooks, nature sounds in the background. It might help to break the routine of how you eat by using chopsticks or no utensils at all. Use your best china and arrange the food on your plate as though for a guest. Eat with Passion This meal you will eat with passion. It will be a sensual and delightfully sacred experience. The food is a gentle lover that has come to take care of you, to soothe and nurture you. Eating will be an entire body and sensory experience, not just putting food in your mouth and swallowing. Notice the steam arising with the scent of the wonderful food you are about to eat. Inhale deeply. Smell the aromas and feel them as they move throughout your entire body. Delight in the experience. Now close your eyes and slowly take a bite. Allow the bite to stay in your mouth for a moment to fully appreciate the taste before you even begin chewing. Find yourself worthy of receiving pleasure that isnt guilt ridden or secret. Allow appreciation of the food to comfort your soul and regenerate your body. Body Awareness Before you eat, notice how it feels to be hungry. Notice your body sensations as you become filled by the food you eat. Become conscious of your whole body. Are your muscles tense anywhere? Notice how you are sitting, and what you are thinking. Are you thinking of the sensations of the food you are eating, or have other thoughts intruded? Gently bring your attention back and breathe deeply. Be aware of your body’s signal when it has had enough to eat. Not sure when youve had enough? Listen to your body. Perhaps one more bite will establish the sense of satisfaction? Or take a good long look at the remaining food does it look the same as when you started? Does it taste the same as when you started? Meal Ending Take a deep breath and allow yourself to have this food inside of you. Say yes your fullness and your participation in a joyful experience. Blow out the candles to symbolically end your meal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Helping people let go of self-destructive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors has been the life work of Dr. Annette Colby. Vitamins To Help With Depression

By Sheryl Polomka Depression is an illness that is suffered by a large percentage of the population. Symptoms of depression include feeling down, unhappy, lack of interest in daily activities, often tired, irritable and more. Depression may result from chemical imbalance or stressful events. Sometimes vitamin deficiencies could contribute to depression so the intake of certain vitamins could in some situations help with depression. When undergoing treatment to overcome depression, it can also help with your recovery to change your lifestyle for the better. Start exercising, eating a good diet and perhaps taking some vitamins. If you also make these changes there is no reason why your treatment will not be successful. Studies have shown that deficiency of certain vitamins can have an effect over a persons mood. Certainly if you think that you may have a vitamin deficiency that may be effecting your moods then start taking a vitamin supplement. You should also always try to increase your intake of that vitamin through your diet. Some vitamins that could help with depression are: Vitamin B-complex - this vitamin can help to keep us mentally and emotionally balanced. Vitamin B-complex cannot be stored in our bodies so we must have an intake of this vitamin on a daily basis. Substances such as alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and refined sugars can also destroy the B vitamins so try to reduce any intake of these substances. Vitamin B1 or Thiamine - our brain needs this to convert glucose or blood sugar into fuel for the brain to function at its best. Without enough of this vitamin we can become depressed, irritable, anxious, tired and be prone to negative thinking. Insufficient amounts of this vitamin can also result in memory problems, insomnia, lack of appetite, and constipation. Vitamin B3 or Niacin - some deficiencies in this vitamin may produce anxiety, agitation, mental and physical slowness. Vitamin B5 or Pyridoxine helps to process amino acids, which is the building blocks of proteins and other hormones. It is essential in the manufacture of serotonin, melatonin, and dopamine. Deficiencies can result in impaired immunity, skin wounds, and mental confusion. Vitamin B12 is essential for the formation of red blood cells. Insufficient amounts of vitamin B12 will lead to an oxygen-transport problem, known as pernicious anemia. This condition can possibly cause mood swings, paranoia, dementia, hallucination, irritability, confusion, or mania and eventually followed by loss of appetite, weakness, dizziness, shortage of breath, palpitation, and more. Folic acid is needed for DNA synthesis and for the production of Sadenosyl Methionine. Usually this is taken together with vitamin B12. Vitamin C is needed, especially if you are pregnant or lactating, or under a lot of stress. Along with vitamins it is also important to make sure you are not deficient in minerals. Insufficient intake of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese and zinc can lead to depression, so make sure to also take supplements for these minerals. Camping out with Reiki - Developing your Personal Reiki Practice

By Bronwen Stiene Lets go camping. (If you have never been camping before then we recommend you suspend your disbelief and well attempt to conjure up a likely image for you.) Its a gorgeous day, youve been wandering through the bush for a couple of hours looking for the perfect camping spot (yes, lets make it an Australian camping story). You startle a wallaby as you turn a corner and she hops away as fast as her powerful legs can carry her. The white cockatoos screech at each other from towering gum trees and the exotic scent of sweet wattle hangs in the warm air. Ahhh this is the life. Youre searching for the perfect camping spot; one that will keep you safe and warm throughout the night. On the other side of a great red boulder you finally see it a clearing at the edge of a deep, vast valley with an uninterrupted panorama as far as the eye can see of the wild Australian bush and its turquoise sky. At the centre of the clearing you notice a small clump of ashes with a log lying nearby that will be perfect for a fireside seat; you realise that someone has camped here before. This is always a good sign. You are not the first to have chosen this path, it must hold some merit. You walk to the edge of the precipice. Breathe in deeply. Youre ready. All the equipment you need is in your backpack, you just have to make sure you use it correctly. **************** Camping out could easily become an analogy for the wonderful world of Reiki. Or have we been too obvious already? Probably. Choose your Reiki path with care. Will the course offer you the tools you need, will it build your independence and yet highlight a path that has shown itself to be successful for others? Back to the story. ****************** You are at your chosen camping spot. While it is still light you begin to unpack your backpack. You have everything you thought you would need as well as all those things that your friends and the camping store had recommended. Most importantly you have the basic elements of nourishment, water, shelter, your torch and for an emergency your charged up mobile. But there is something special that you require when you go camping out overnight that you cant buy. Its something only you can make. ****************** Back in the world of Reiki youve paid for your course and you are being taught the basic elements of the system; hand positions, techniques and meditations, symbols and mantras, and precepts. You receive *reiju and you begin to feel ready to start your practice. But theres something more to this as well ****************** Fire. Building a good Reiki practice is like building a great campfire. First of all your practice needs to be ignited. Without ignition the fire doesnt burn and there is no promise of future warmth or wisdom. Obviously, you need good solid material to begin your fire with - kindling, dry matches and the perfect position. If all you hold in your hand is a pretty piece of paper, it will go up in flames in seconds leaving you with a smattering of uninspiring black ash and sore fingers. Ignition is therefore a direct result of your experience during a quality Reiki course. Something catches alight when you bring together the basic elements of the system along with an accomplished teacher and your fellow students. This magical combination creates an environment predisposed to fire. It might be during the practice of *hatsurei ho or when you receive reiju that combustion point is reached; you glimpse a sense of inner peace or perhaps feel momentarily connected to everyone and everything in the room or, more intensely, the universe. You have been gifted with a promise. This promise is a transaction between you and something deep inside you that is normally covered with a thick veneer of society. You have just been offered a view of something that is beyond imagining; beyond your daily routine of work, recreation and sleep. But it is up to you to fulfil the promise. Do you want that sense of inner peace to return again and more regularly? Imagine continuing the experience of connectedness with everyone and everything? Do you want to try to be always moving with the flow of the universe and simply Being? Now you can. Your fire has been ignited. You must, however, feed it. Go gather more sticks, keep your fire burning. At your course your teacher hands you something to take away. A practice and full support. Know that if you practice too little - your fire will go out. At times of doubt grab for that lifeline of support - or else you will forget the promise and your Reiki course will become nothing more than a pleasant memory. Extend your given practice from 5 minutes a day to 10 and so on. Be aware of balance in your practice; some days you need a bit more and other a little less. It all depends upon your inner barometer and you are paying attention now, tending your fire. So find yourself a comfortable spot near your great campfire that will warm you, feed you and light your way through the dark night. Build the fire gradually with the appropriate size logs until its constant white heat warms your inner soul. This spot will be like no other it is individual to you. Sitting at ease on your log, you notice the firelight flickering against the mottled trunk of a nearby tall tree. You are reminded that the grand gum trees of the Australian bush purposefully litter the ground with their leaves to encourage fire. Fire offers this unique flora regeneration. It is when the perfect combination of eucalyptus oil and dry heat unite, combustion occurs and the bush is caught in the renewing force of fire. Enjoy the night sky, watch the stars sparkle in the heavens and sip your *billy tea. It is humanitys innate ability to find peace within. Foster the right conditions, keep the fire of practice burning like a wonderfully controlled campfire, and enjoy the fruits of life in action. GLOSSARY *Reiju: In Japan, reiju is the name given to the method a teacher uses in order to communicate with individual students on an energetic level. In the process of moving from Japan to the West, reiju changed a number of its aspects including its name. In the West its altered form is usually known as an attunement, initiation or transformation. *Hatsurei Ho: You will find versions of this technique here, in The Japanese Art of Reiki. *Billy tea: Billy tea is created in a billy can or billy. This is a traditional Australian utensil for making tea over a fire. It is a cylindrical can with a lid. A stick is poked under its wire handle to enable easy movement on or off the fire. How to make Billy Tea: Pour water into a billy can, place in fire and wait for it to boil. Remove from fire and add a couple of teaspoons of black tea. Hold the billy by its handle and swing in a great arching circle from the ground to the sky a number of times. The pressure of the fast movement ensures that the tea remains in the billy and doesnt end up all over you. Let it sit briefly before pouring. This unusual process ensures that the tea leaves settle well, yielding up a delicious cup of billy tea without having to use a strainer. Mmm mmm. Cellulite Specialist

By Tim Wu Do you like to have a beautiful appearance? Do you like to go to the beach and swim with sexy bikini in the summer season? Or just wear sexy dresses of summer season and go out to enjoy the sunny weather with friends? But you will be very sad if you have some cellulite on your arms or legs, right? And the summer is coming. Dont worry! Now its the good time to remove the cellulite from your body. I can help you! Cellulite is a normal human variation from the norm; it is the lumpy substance resembling cottage cheese that is commonly found on the thighs, stomach, and butt. Cellulite is actually a fancy name for collections of fat that push against the connective tissue beneath a person’s skin, which causes the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and look lumpy. Several factors influence whether a person has cellulite and how much they have from genes, gender, fat and the thickness of the skin. My research has found two other important reasons that cellulite exist: food intake and blockage. The food that you eat every day, especially the meat (animal fat), causes the body to create too much fat that gathers on some areas. Blockage is blood stagnation and inflammation. Blood stagnations or inflammation on the tissues around an area will cause poor circulation condition, and will block the balanced distribution of the fat. Most people dislike bumps and indentations on their bodies and prefer to be as smooth as they possibly can, especially the beautiful ladies. Several people spend huge amount of money trying to remove their cellulite, but are only wasting their money and time. Treatments like liposuction (surgery to remove fat) and mesotherapy (injection of drugs into cellulite) are either expensive or may produce only temporary improvement. Many doctors even warn that liposuction is not an effective treatment for cellulite because liposuction is designed to remove deep fat instead of cellulite, which is close to the skin. My unique therapy is focus on the improvement of the circulation around the certain area. The fat will be re-distributed smoothly after cleaning the entire blockage (blood stagnation and inflammation) around the cellulite area. And the skin will be smooth and no more lumpy substance. My unique therapy can help you get your smooth skin back by taking about 8-10 treatments. Want to be more beautiful and attractive? Call me at: 206-595-0157. How To Tell Mr. Right From the Deceptive Charming Actor

By Edward Gichia What is it about Men? They are always grumbling that women are strange, fastidious and after their wallets. Men probably have no idea that they are stranger creatures themselves. Forget about Sigmund Freuds claims of not knowing what a woman really wants. The truth is, most men know. And here comes the problem. Almost every man you meet is trying to act like Mr. Right. Many of them are really doing a good job, coming off as suave and gallant. Some of these guys go to great lengths of learning the art of palmistry, fashion, cookery and even those chic dance moves. Depending on how astute the man is, some women may not realize till its too late. Many others will have a hard time trying to tell the good from the bad. So how does a woman work out through this deceptive chivalrous charade? How do you tell if he is upright and trustworthy, or if he is just another smooth-talking James Bond wanabe whose sole intent is to get into the sack then discard you? Unless he is extremely skillful, most of these silver-tongued, insincere show-offs usually forget the basics. They leave noticeable trails along the way which lead to their doom. One of a womans greatest strengths is her gut instinct. If something doesnt feel right about a man, it isnt. If you feel that he is a cheat, a womanizer or anything of the sort, chances are that he is. This is the ultimate no-brainer. If a man is really interested in you, he will always make time for you. Truth is, you will always be in his mind. If he doesnt call you or is constantly making lame excuses to avoid you like hes busy or having problems with his ex, then hes not the one. A man will never be too busy to be with his dream woman. He will even forfeit watching that football game or skip hanging out with his buddies just to be with you. If he is truly in love, he will want to spend every moment with you at every possible excuse. Does he remember your birthday, any special anniversary or when you first met? Does he take time to know you and ask you what you want? Does he make an effort to make an early booking at your favorite hang-out? Does he honor his word? Does he treat other people with respect? What do your friends think of him? Does he disappoint you? Do his interests match yours? How does he treat children? You can be rest assured that during the initial stages of dating, any man will be at their best behavior. But somewhere along the way, the real guys persist while the pretentious ones ultimately stumble. You will have to keep a close eye on the man and constantly evaluate his behavior. The real truth about most people is unearthed when they are put to the test and observing how they behave in many different situations. If you find anything suspicious or distasteful about him, then these may be tell-tale signs that he is probably not your man. Remember to watch his behavior closely. No matter how principled he portrays himself, he will eventually falter if he was insincere from the beginning. Like I mentioned before, a womans instinct is a powerful weapon. If one of those devious blokes comes your way, dont be too impressed if hes seems classy and cultured. First impressions are important, but can also be very deceptive. The last thing you want is make the fatal mistakes in dating. Never ever make assumptions. Better to acquire as much evidence as possible and get the facts right. Always remember to watch his dark side. A stressful or an annoying situation is always a perfect opportunity to know a persons true character, but do not go about creating one. If you dont evaluate his behavior and character, you are in danger of missing important clues and revealing signs that will tell you if he is the right man for you. The good thing is that even the most resilient and striking of those men pretending to act like Mr. Right cannot stand the test of time. If they dont meet your expectations, better cut your losses and move on. Never ever make the mistake of believing that you can change him. Marriage wont change him either. 5 Tips to Finding the Best Bad Credit Credit Card

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joshua_Shapiro]Joshua Shapiro Bad credit can sometimes feel like the end of the world, but it doesnt have to be. There is now a wealth of credit options, such as credit cards, out there for people with bad credit. Sure, you may not have all the options when it comes to terms and percentage rates, but at least you will have a way to build your credit back up to ultimate personal freedom. 1. Visit Your Local Credit Union One of the best things you can tell someone with damaged, or bad, credit is to visit their local credit union. These bank-like institutions may be more than likely to extend you a card if you belong to a particular community, civic organization, union, or other social group. 2. Explore Your Alternatives Another good option is to explore alternative credit card companies, such as gas company cards, department store cards, and newer card companies. These will help you not only organize your finances. They will also help you slowly build up the credit you need to get a card from one of the big credit companies. 3. Get a Buddy to Co-Sign If you still have no luck securing a card, dont give up yet. Try to see if you could have a friend or relative be a co-signer on a card. Basically, theyre agreeing to shell over the cash you owe if you default on your payments, an agreement that tends to make creditors feel a bit more comfortable. Hopefully, of course, it wont come to that. Also, check out secured credit cards. With these newer type cards, you set up your own credit limit by putting that exact dollar amount in a savings account. Basically, its like betting on your own good debt behavior. 4. Shop Around There is a fast and furious market out there for your business. Credit cards like anything else are all about getting new customers and making money, so it stands to reason that there will be a lot of selection out there to choose from. That means, put bluntly, dont jump on the first “yes” offer. Shop around. 5. Reality Check Then again, you will have all of these card offersbut dont expect any one to blow you away. Compared to regular credit cards, bad credit credit cards wont have the best rates, APRs, penalties, annual fees, or credit limits. For instance, your credit limit may only begin at $500, and late fees may blow your socks off. Seven Tips to De-Cleanse Your Home

By Mary Jo Rulnick You want to reorganize or revamp your surroundings. But, as soon as the word “organize” is mentioned, you tune out immediately. So, instead of thinking “organize,” think “cleanse.” You’re cleansing your house and life of things that you don’t need or things that cause more work for you. Think about it, do you want to dust something you haven’t used in ages? Do you want to pull out stuff from the closet you haven’t worn in years only to put it back in the closet again? And don’t you get stressed out looking for something you know you have, but can’t find, because of all the other junk in the way? So, you are going to cleanse your house, and by cleansing your house of the clutter, you’re getting rid of stress, too. And the cleansing process can be accomplished in 30 minutes a day. That’s it. So, set aside 30 minutes and follow these seven steps to cleanse your surroundings. Psst! If you can’t find 30 minutes a day, use 15 minutes. 1. Spend 30 minutes each day on one drawer, shelf, or closet. First, empty the drawer of all of the contents, discard broken and/or useless bits and pieces, wipe clean, then add a new piece of liner if needed. 2. Start with the one area that you always seem to leave for last or the place that overwhelms you the most. Your initial enthusiasm will help make this task easier. By the 15th day of cleansing, your enthusiasm has dwindled and this can cause you to dread those harder areas to come. 3. Collect any small appliance, utensils, or serving pieces that you do not use, but are still in good condition. Have your family and friends do the same with theirs. Invite the group to bring their “do not use” objects and have a housewares swap. This works especially well for that never-used merchandise you bought from a party plan and for the unwanted gifts you’ve received that will sit in a closet. (P.S. You can have a swap with just about anything from crafts to software programs to toys.) 4. Use one canned food or boxed product from your pantry every day. Incorporate this product into your supper meal. By the end of the month, you should have “Old Mother Hubbard’s cupboard,” making this area a snap to clean. 5. Have the kids help you with their toys and clothes, but give them an incentive to do so. Before you start tossing their belongings, look for a resale shop that allows you to sell items on a consignment basis. Or store all the “to be sold” things in one place for a garage sale or to take to a flea market. Many churches have flea markets as a fundraiser. The earnings could be divided up among the kids or go toward a designated family trip. 6. Go through the books, computer software and videos. Books, software, and videos can be swapped, or sold at a garage sale or consignment shop. Or for immediate sales, list the goods through Amazon.com Marketplace. When your objects are sold, the money is deposited into the account you specify. 7. Pull out the photos and set up a card table in the family/living room. Include a box of photos (one season at a time), scissors, old greeting cards, stickers, markers, and an album. Cut out shapes or words from the old cards and include these on the album’s pages for cheap scrapbooking fun. With a marker, add comments to coincide with the pictures. This is a great way to spend a rainy or snowy evening with the family, yet accomplish a task that can be easily overlooked. Follow these quick steps and, soon, your surroundings will be cleansed of all that extra stuff making you frantic. NOTE: Any items you’d like to discard can always be donated to charitable organizations, shelters, and senior centers. Don’t Be a Bridezilla! What’s the Remedy?

By Mitta Vicki Wise Theres a term out there: bridezilla. A bridezilla is a person whos extremely demanding, has lost touch with her own true feelings, and the feelings of those around her. Bridezillas can be just plain obnoxious! Bridezillas can be born, but mostly theyre made. Women turn into bridezillas because they havent paid attention to who they really are, and what theyre feeling as they go down the path toward their bridal day. The result is that every step becomes a crisis. If you’ve become a bridezilla, what’s the remedy? First, get hold of yourself. Stop, look and listen! Somewhere along the line, you’ve lost your awareness about what this wedding’s all about. You’ve gotten tangled up in a mountain of details, and you’ve forgotten the people around you; in fact, you’ve forgotten yourself. A wedding shouldn’t be terribly fraught with anger and irritation at others. If your wedding is going this way, you might consider taking a break for the day. Go out and do something that has nothing to do with your Special Day. Give yourself room to gain a new perspective. Next, apologize to the people around you. People are pretty forgiving, especially in the face of an apology. Simply tell them you’re sorry, you lost perspective, and you’d like to begin anew. Then, tame your list of details and expectations. Trim things back to fit in with your time frame, budget and emotional health. Get a grip again on what’s truly important to you. Let some things go. Keep what’s vital close to your heart. Allow yourself to be imperfect. That’s what makes you a unique and special human being. Did you know that your faults are likely to be the very things that set you apart and make you enchanting to other people? A perfect person is intimidating to others- we all know inside that we aren’t perfect! When someone comes along who appears to be, we feel bad about ourselves. It’s in the sharing of imperfection that true friendship and unity happen. Forgive yourself. This is one of the most important lessons in life. We need to allow ourselves to make mistakes. That’s part of the definition of being human. When we’re facing something that’s really big and unfamiliar, we tend to make even more mistakes. That’s just our nature. Give yourself a break here. Maybe you did go over the top. Everyone’s going to be just fine in the end. Believe it or not, your wedding and the months that preceded it are not going to be forever engraved in minute detail on the mind of everyone involved. It may seem impossible to believe right now, but everything really doesn’t have to be “just so,” in order for your event to be wonderful. One wedding a bride’s father stepped on her train. There was a moment of held breaths as the sound of ripping satin reverberated through the church. Was it something one would plan for? Of course not! Was the wedding beautiful? Of course it was. Hint: remind Dad not to step on the train. At yet another wedding, the bride’s veil got caught in the rose bushes just outside the church door. Cheerily, she called, “I’ll be just a second.” Sure enough, everyone turned around and looked back. But the beautiful thing was, she was smiling and deliriously happy! We all waited while she untangled the veil and proceeded down the aisle. By this time, we were all smiling with the shared joy at her marriage. The point here is this: perfection does not usually equal happiness. It never has, and it never will. That’s something our culture has really forgotten. We think if we’re thin enough, or wealthy enough or beautiful enough that we will be happy. But happiness is about accepting our imperfections and having a sense of humor about them, not about hiding ourselves from others. So, you forgot and momentarily turned into a bridezilla. That’s okay. We forgive you. Now, you need to forgive yourself. Mitta Vicki Wise is an RN, Stress Management and Alternative Health Practitioner for over 15 years.
